 Progress log and blog report

4 DECEMBER 2005 - LET THE ADVENTURE BEGIN

Myself, Chris, Alan, Julian and Ivor - 26 hours after leaving Heathrow, stopping in the cold of Toronto and at the very appealing airport at Santiago, we arrived somewhat the worse for wear at Buenos Aires.

Buenos-Aires-airport

Pesos seem only available when you are in Argentina so after a hurried conversion (about 23p/Peso) we looked for our car. This had been kindly organised by Francisco, our shipping agent.

So, it was back to the hotel where 4 of Julian’s Brazilian friends were waiting. I can’t yet spell their names (apologies), but I will get there! Lots of cheers and greetings – and immediately to the pub next door for some celebrations.  There was time for a nap in our room before meeting one of only two people in the whole of South America who owns a Healey – Miguel. He has a beautiful Silverstone which has been in Argentina since new and he uses Internationally on rallies. It was currently waiting him in Italy for next years rallies. Miguel had been instrumental in helping us organise for this adventure. He had provided advice and contacts and was this evening going to throw a party in our honour!

At 8pm Miguel arrived with a fleet of cars to pick us up and take us to his home.

Busy-Buenos-Aires

Classic Porsche, Jaguar, Alfa Romeo immediately met us, a large swimming pool a beautiful house – two houses! Miguel and his lovely wife have another house in their garden. His wife and daughters spoke excellent English (eh Miguel!?) and looked after us as the other guests arrived. They had obviously been chosen carefully, all car enthusiasts! So, with a dinner party of about 20 we sat outside in the mild evening air and had a traditional Argentinean feast.

Blood sausage and sausage. Something we couldn’t even guess. Cuts from different parts of the cow – all accompanied with mountains of fresh salad and deep, rich red wine. The time passed all too quickly.
